Over 200 staff from over 60 different retailers of Sands China’s Shoppes retail malls received their certificates last week for successfully completing a training program, becoming the Sands Retail Academy’s first group of graduates.
“We created the Academy to provide benefits to our retailers by offering training courses that help develop employees into confident, skilled, and professional workers, thereby helping enhance Shoppes’ position as a world-class shopping destination,” stated Ms Derinda Brown, Vice President of Retail Marketing of Sands Retail, at the graduation ceremony.
Aiming to improve quality of service, Sands Retail and Sands China’s Human Resources department launched the training program last November for the retail teams of the Shoppes at Four Seasons, Venetian and Cotai Central.
The first group of trainees completed a 12-hour, three-module program containing the courses: Put Your Best Face Forward: Improving Your Image, Service and Selling Skills, and Handling Complaints and Difficult Situations.
“In the three modules I learnt about grooming, selling techniques and handling complaints. We have learnt something from our company, but Sands China has provided us with a very good environment to refresh our techniques,” said one of the graduates, Mr Scottie U from Bulgari.
“The Academy has been very successful so far, and we’ve enjoyed a great response in terms of participation,” said Mr Antonio Ramirez, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Venetian Macau Limited.
“So far we have 286 participants and we’ve got 8,000 [employees], so we’ve only just begun, and all of the classes are full,” Ms Brown told the media. “We probably might end up doing two or three graduation ceremonies a year, because it’s been so popular.”
The Academy is also planning to launch another program covering topics such as the Sands Rewards Club and the Sands Loyalty Program.
