Arts | Lisbon holds exhibition by Macau photographer

The exhibition, “Where the World Heritage Shines – Photography Exhibition of the Historic Centre of Macao,” is currently being held at the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre in Lisbon until May 31.

The ongoing exhibition features some 90 photographs of the world heritage listed Historic Center of Macau by local photographer Chan Hin Io.

In recent years, he has been devoted to capturing Macau’s customs as well as the city’s landscapes, winning several photography awards.

Among his published works are: “The Neighbourhood of Macau – Documentary Photographs by Chan Hin Io” and “Memories of the Old Crafts and Trades in Macao, Life in Macao 2012”.

According to a statement released by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the photographs present the beauty and vitality of Macau’s cultural heritage and show the charm of the small city through various angles.

An opening ceremony was held on March 8 and was officiated by the president of the Macao Scientific and Cultural Centre of Portugal, Luís Filipe Barreto and the representative of the president of IC and director of the Macau Archives, Lau Fong.

Over 80 guests were present at the ceremony, including the head of the Culture Section of the Chinese embassy in Portugal, Yang Chunyan and the former governor of Macau, Garcia Leandro.

Jointly organized by the IC and the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre of the Ministry of Education and Science of Portugal, the exhibition will also be held at the Vila Flor Palace in Guimarães from June 23 to August 15.

According to the bureau, the exhibition is a manifestation of the friendly cooperation between cultural institutions in Portugal and Macau, and the growing Sino-Portuguese cultural exchange.
