Briefs | Zhuhai to install small medical emergency stations

Zhuhai is planning to install 100 micro medical emergency stations at several locations across the city, including governmental organizations, supermarkets, hotels, tourism spots, schools and other densely populated areas. The stations will resemble vending machines, and will occupy less than one square meter. Emergency aid kits will be available in each station, including first-aid kits. The public can scan a QR code on the outside of the vending machine to receive one of the emergency kits.  Zhuhai will also establish large scale emergency stations to provide between 16 and 19 kinds of emergency aids kits.

USJ co-organizes Law of the Sea program

The University of Saint Joseph and the Institute of European Studies of Macau are jointly offering a short lifelong learning program titled “Law of the Sea and Water Law.”  The program will cover a broad range of topics, including the historical background of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, maritime boundaries, preservation of the marine environment, the concept of marine spatial planning, sea-economy under regional and international legal frameworks, freedom of navigation, criminality and human rights at sea. The 18-hour program will be conducted in English and will be held from September 1 to 3 with a tuition fee of MOP2,800.

Philippine woman robbed by group of five

A Philippine woman was robbed by a group of four men and a woman in a public space in Taipa last week. The incident occurred at Rotunda do Estádio, early on Thursday morning. The victim alleges that the group demanded her valuables, including her passport, watch, mobile phone and handbag. The woman called the police that day to report the incident. The authorities have given a statement saying that they are investing the case. According to Macau Daily News, the police declined to disclose the nationality of the suspects and whether the victim was a tourist, resident, or migrant worker.

71-year-old woman killed by husband

The Judiciary Police (PJ) have reported that a 71-year-old local woman was murdered by her husband yesterday in the early morning. The couple, who lived close to the Border Gate, were reportedly having an argument about their daily life. The husband then used a tool to stab his wife, causing severe injuries.  Afterwards, the husband called the police requesting assistance. The wife was admitted to hospital but died as a result of her injuries. The man has been charged with murder  and is being investigated by the PJ.

Most taxi infractions related to overcharging 

The Public Security Police Force (PSP) recorded 416 taxi infractions during the month of July, according to a statement released by PSP. The infractions include 244 cases (58.6 percent) of over-charging and 118 cases (28.4 percent) of taxi drivers who refused to accept passengers. One infraction was related to a taxi driver who did not queue up to take passengers. During the same period, the police recorded 128 cases involving unauthorized taxis, 95 of which related to mobile taxi hailing services. There are 54 cases involving other infractions.
