The Buzz | Car accidents in Zhuhai caused 82 deaths from January to October

From January to October, car accidents in Zhuhai caused a total of 82 deaths in the city. Some 332 people were injured from the accidents, according to a report by Jornal Va Kio. Compared to last year, two fewer deaths and 25 fewer injures were recorded. Six of the deaths were caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol, which is a decrease of four deaths compared to 2015.

A total of 348 traffic accidents took place in Zhuhai. However, the city is still ranked among the top cities in the Guangdong province with fewer car accidents occurring.

Most noticeable are the numbers related to Zhuhai’s “peng ci” cases. “Peng ci” is a term that originally stands for “touch porcelain.” It typically describes a situation where a person deliberately creates motor accidents in order to claim for compensation.

Zhuhai police said that it had recently received approximately 100 reports which are likely to be “peng ci” cases. Through its official WeChat account, Zhuhai police reminded the public that “peng ci” cases have recently been occurring far more frequently than in any other seasons.

The police also reminded drivers to install dashboard cameras to ensure that they have video evidence in the event of being involved in “peng ci” cases.
