HK Down Syndrome Association creates 51st lion sculpture for MGM

01MGM Macau’s summer artistic attraction, the “Biennial of The Lions,” is coming to an end this Sunday. As a grand finale for the exhibition, MGM invited Mr. Andrew Yuen, Chairman of the Board of Le French May cum Vice President of The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association (HKDSA), to create the 51st lion sculpture, together with members of the Association. With this lion sculpture, MGM hopes to further attest its efforts in making art accessible to all groups across the community.
Garnered with colorful motifs, the lion sculpture was created by more than 15 members with intellectual disabilities at HKDSA, aged between 9 and 35. The lion, coated in vibrant yellow, orange and green colors, signifies the pure heart which brings happiness and spreads the message of love to the world. Further exhibiting their limitless creativity, the group has painted the plinth in Mosaic-like fashion, with heart shapes in different sizes to mirror the name of this sculpture, “A Gift of Love.”
Adding finishing touches to the sculpture to signify its full completion, Mr. Andrew Yuen said, “It has been a great pleasure collaborating with MGM MACAU for ‘Biennial of The Lions’ under the program of Le French May. With the 51st lion sculpture created by HKDSA, we hope to support MGM Art Space in making art accessible to the public, and to different groups which make up our society. It was an unforgettable experience for our members to create a work of art, and through that, we are also sending our love and compassion to the rest of the world.”
