The St. Regis Macao Hotel, Cotai Central and Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel hosted a UNICEF Charity Carnival on Saturday at the Samarkan Ballroom of the Sheraton.
The event raised more than MOP70,000 in aid of UNICEF’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program, according to a joint statement.
This year’s UNICEF Charity Carnival featured a range of food, games, face painting, appearances by DreamWorks Characters and activities for children such as Kids’ Aerobics and Bollywood Jam.
The highlight was the silent auction of art pieces generously donated by the talented children of three enthusiastic local Macau schools: Macau Anglican College, The International School of Macau (TIS) and Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai. The auction raised over MOP5,000 for the charity.
“It was fantastic to see the local community of Macau support and contribute to such a worthy cause,” said Janet McNab, Managing Director of Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel and The St. Regis Macao. “Money raised can help less privileged children have access to clean drinking water and basic everyday essentials, something I believe we take for granted in our daily lives. Watching the children create such wonderful pieces of artwork was so inspiring, and each and every one of them are an inspiration to their school.’’
Both Sheraton Grand Macao and the St. Regis Macao have also been participating in an ongoing drive where guests who are checking out are encouraged to donate USD1 to UNICEF.
UNICEF works in more than 100 countries to improve access to safe, clean water and sanitation facilities. Globally, waterborne illnesses are a leading cause of death for children under five, killing nearly 1,000 children every day.
All funds raised will be donated in full to UNICEF to provide children in impoverished countries access to clean and safe drinking water.
