DSEJ asks schools to take in children with special needs

2 renato marques6I0A9933The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau has called on local private secondary schools to admit more children with special needs and provide them with integrated education.
Director of the bureau’s Centre of Psycho-pedagogical Support and Special Education, Ms Chow Pui Leng, told TDM that there are currently 29 private and 9 public schools providing integrated education. Of these, 17 private and 2 public schools provide integrated education at the secondary level.
One concerned parent on TDM’s current affairs radio program noted that Macau lacks a system for special needs students to transition to secondary education. Chow responded on the program that the bureau would offer assistance when parents encounter problems obtaining school seats. The bureau will also strive to meet the special needs of these students and encourage more of them to attend ordinary secondary schools.
