DSEJ to consult high school academic attainment next year

The director of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ), Leong Lai, has revealed that her department is going to launch the public consultation of the high school basic academic attainment in 2015. She estimated that the curriculum reform for the non-tertiary education in Macau will finish in the 2019/2020 school year.
Leong Lai spoke to the media regarding the timeframe of the implementation of the basic academic attainment stating that:
“In 2014/2015 school year, we will start implementing the Education Curriculum Framework; in 2015/2016, the basic academic attainment for kindergarten will be implemented. It will be in the junior primary’s term [to implement the basic academic attainment] in 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 for senior primary, junior and senior secondary schools all together.”
The director added that the basic level of academic attainment will be released in the form of administrative law. She also mentioned that there are already curricular pilot schemes in place for kindergarten education.
Leong Lai said that DSEJ is currently drafting the basic academic attainment for primary and junior secondary education and the Bureau is set to consult the public regarding the basic academic attainment of senior secondary education in 2015.
According to the information from DSEJ, basic academic attainment refers to the general capacity of a student in terms of the basic knowledge, skills, ability, emotion, attitude and value that he/she should possess after a certain stage of education. These should serve as the foundation for the student’s future lifelong education and development.
Drafted documents regarding the basic academic attainment of various subjects in primary education are available on DSEJ’s website.
