The Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM) is welcoming 900 new students this academic year. Over 6,600 students applied for admission to IPM in the 2017/2018 academic year with around 900 joining as freshmen. Over 80 percent of new students are from Macau.
According to a statement from the institute, admission into IPM was highly competitive this year. The opening ceremony for the commencement of the new academic year will be held tomorrow at the IPM Pavilion.
The institute received applications from more than 4,000 students in Macau alone and noted that both the number and quality of applications were very high.
Within Macau, 130 students were recommended for direct admission by their school principals.
The institute is awarding scholarships to 150 high- achieving freshmen to encourage them to do their very best in their studies and to contribute to society in the future.
This year the institute is also welcoming international students from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Portugal, Brazil and Cape Verde. IPM hopes that students coming from diverse cultural backgrounds will encourage intercultural engagement on campus, nurturing an international perspective throughout the student population.
In the new academic year, IPM states that it will continue to uphold its “student-centered” teaching philosophy to nurture future professionals, providing top-notch academic support and facilities to create an enhanced learning environment.
IPM adds that they will actively explore internship and overseas exchange initiatives to encourage diversified learning and to nurture an international vision among their students. Currently, many of the institute’s programs provide study abroad options for their students in addition to providing strategic partnerships to apply for internship opportunities at over 200 organizations locally and abroad. According to the statement, these elements constitute a favorable environment for IPM students to develop their professional expertise.
Moreover, IPM states that it is widely recognized by international academic and professional organizations, as most of the institute’s programs have passed international academic reviews.
