Gov’t reveals 2014 honors titles recipients

The government has published a list of 50 individuals and entities who will receive honorific titles this year. Recipients were nominated by the Committee of Nomination of Medals and Honorary Titles in recognition of their outstanding achievements, contributions and services to Macau.
This year’s recipient of the Decoration of Honour – Golden Lotus, the second highest honour in the city’s decoration system, is Vitor Ng, local businessman and former administrative committee president of the Macau Foundation. The Decoration of Honour – Silver Lotus was awarded to Chio Ngan Ieng, the president of the Women’s General Association of Macau. As for the Decoration of Honour – Grand Lotus, the highest honour in the city’s decoration system, the government has decided not to award the title this year.
Moreover, four entities were awarded the Medals of Merit. Two Medals of Merit in Tourism were awarded to Air Macau and Future Bright Holdings, owned by lawmaker Chan Chak Mo. TDM was bestowed the Medal of Merit in Culture while the medical team of general medicine division and day hospital of the Conde de São Januário Central Hospital has received a Medal of Merit in Philanthropy.
A Medal of Distinguished Services, awarded to public entities and their staff for outstanding performance in their duties or common service, was bestowed to José Chu, the former director of the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau who just retired in mid-November.
The list of recipients of the Certificate of Merit, which is awarded to individuals who made major contribution to the reputation, development and social progress of MSAR, was dominated by swimming, diving, Karate, Taekwondo and Wushu athletes who participated in the Asian Games and other national, regional, and international sports events this year. They include swimmers Chao Man Hou, the Macau Diving Team, diving athlete Choi Sut Ian, Karate athlete Paula Carion and Taekwondo athlete Wang Junnan.
The award ceremony will take place in mid-December.
