Russell Mountford, the 33-year-old British rider who was involved in a serious accident at the Macau Grand Prix on November 19, is expected to be released from hospital today.
Mountford, who suffered several non-lethal bone fractures, will be dismissed today from the Public Hospital (CHCSJ). He will return to the U.K., where he will convalesce for another three or four months.
Mountford’s condition is stable, and he explained that he was treated very well in the public hospital, having registered major progress over the last six days. “In the last six days, I have recovered massively. I couldn’t move my legs, I couldn’t move anything. Now I have quite good movement in my legs and I can feel them, I’m just struggling with sleeping,” he said yesterday during a meeting with local journalists, as cited by TDM.
According to the surgeon from CHCSJ, “the first part of the surgeries has been done and it is now possible for him to go back home.”
The CHCSJ said that Mountford would be transported by helicopter to Hong Kong, where a medical team will escort him during the trip.
Fellow rider Tom McHale, who suffered a serious accident in the morning session of November 20, is still in the Intensive Care Unit with several fractures and serious injuries.  However, according to the public hospital, his condition is not life-threatening. RM
