Junkets planning to fire staff

Two local VIP gaming service operators are allegedly preparing to shut down their VIP rooms as a result of the gaming industry’s year-long slump. According to the Forefront of Macau Gaming union, Neptune GD Group is planning to dismiss around 300 of its employees at the end of this month. The gaming association claims that some of its members have been pressured to voluntarily resign by their employers. David Group, which already closed three VIP rooms in January, is said to be continuing its shut-down spree in the near future.
The Forefront of Macau Gaming’s vice-president, Lei Kuok Keong, said that aside from the sharp reduction in staff welfare, many junket employers have slumped. Meanwhile, he said, some others have streamlined their operations by closing unnecessary gaming rooms in casinos due to the shrinking VIP market.
