The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lionel Leong, has reiterated the government’s principle behind the granting of new gambling tables, saying that, “A decade from 2013, the average growth in the number of gambling tables will be strictly controlled within 3 percent.” Meanwhile, he stressed that each application made by casino operators for additional gaming tables will be strictly examined for approval in an overall assessment, rather than simply calculating how to divide the sum.
Leong told the media on the sidelines of an event yesterday that the overall assessment includes evaluating the applicant’s market competitiveness, the project’s non-gaming elements, the applicant’s collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as whether the applicant is able to cooperate with the city’s goal of building a world-class leisure and tourism center.
The secretary also revealed that, so far, the government has received one operator’s application, and that project is expected to open next month. He said that the authorities are analyzing the application, and will reveal the result in due course.
