Macau Rents drive annual inflation by 5.82 pct in September

General Economy Images Ahead Of CPI DataIncreases in rent and the cost of eating out were, once again, the main factors behind the 5.82 percent surge in Macau’s annual inflation in September, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau said.
The Bureau also said that, compared to September last year, there were significant increases in the price indices of the categories of housing and fuel (+12.15 percent) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (+5.46 percent) .
In September, the Consumer Price Index increased by 0.53% in monthly terms, with the indices of the categories of spending on education, housing and fuel, and food and non-alcoholic beverages posting rises of 2.63 percent, 1.04 percent and 0.92 percent, respectively, compared to the previous month.
The inflation rate, measured by the average CPI for the last 12 months over the preceding 12 months, rose 6.03 percent, with substantial increases in the indices of housing and fuel (+11.83 percent) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (+6.24 percent).  MDT/Macauhub
