As the only prime exhibitor from the green hotel category at the fair, gaming operator Melco Crown told the Times that the company feels the responsibility to take the lead in energy-saving.
Participating in MIECF for the fourth time, the company set up its booth with used and obsolete electronic devices including electronic chips, computer hard disks and CDs on the façade, wine boxes collected from restaurants as flooring, and recycled plastic bottles for the reception desk.
The company’s Vice President, Property Services, Joshua Ho, explained that the booth is aiming to help raise awareness of the increasing e-waste problem in Macau. Moreover, he said that the company has invested over MOP100 million in recent years in order to save energy.
“As a gaming company in Macau’s major industry, we have a big entertainment resort, we use a lot of different utilities, so we believe its our role, our responsibility to take the lead in energy saving,” he stressed.
The company has set up an environmental management committee that is chaired by the company’s Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Ho. Every month, managers from all departments gather together to talk about how to improve on the company’s environmental issues.
“We constantly look for innovative solutions to minimize our impact to the environment while developing our business. We strive to pursue a sustainable future for our society,” said Lawrence Ho yesterday in a press release.
