MGTO launches Japanese and Korean versions of tourism app

The Macao Government Tourism Office introduced the Japanese and Korean versions of the “Step Out, Macao” mobile app in a bid to promote both Macau’s “smart tourism.”
The app, originally in Chinese, English and Portuguese, consists
of eight “Step Out, Experience Macao’s Communities” walking tour routes in different districts around the region.
The app also offers descriptions of tourism spots including the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macau, a schedule of cultural performances, restaurant recommendations, bus routes, Wi-Fi locations, public sanitary facilities and other useful information along the routes.
Downloadable for free from the App Store or Google Play, users can also scan the QR codes on path signs along the themed routes with their smartphone and obtain tourism information in hard copy nearby, as described in a press release issued by MGTO.
The mobile app has previously
been recognized by the 2016 PATA Gold Awards in the category of Marketing Media – Mobile Travel Application, in acknowledgment of its exceptional achievements in media and marketing.
The “Step Out, Macao” app was first launched by MGTO in December 2013 with four walking tour routes, and was later upgraded in February 2015 to introduce eight redesigned walking tour routes across different parishes on the Macau peninsula, Taipa and Coloane.
MGTO noted that Japan and Korea have both been major visitor sources for the region. In the first eight months this year, the region has received 187,011 Japanese visitors and 422,379 Korean visitors, recording a year-on-year increase of 7.5 percent and 12.8 percent respectively.
MGTO hoped that by introducing different language versions and new features on the “Step Out, Macao” mobile app, it could attract more international visitors to the city.
MGTO said it will keep optimizing and enhancing the features of the mobile app to offer improved functions and services for visitors to the region.
