For the first time in 21 years, the Macau International Airport (MIA) has hit a historic record of 600,000 passenger movements for the month of July.
This new record is the highest single month passenger traffic total, with average daily passenger volume amounting to over 19,000, up by 20 percent compared to last year.
According to a statement from Macau International Airport Company Ltd (CAM), there were over 4,900 aircraft movements in July 2016, two percent higher than the same period last year.
Southeast Asia routes represented 43 percent of the overall market last month, followed by mainland China and Taiwan, which accounted for 30 percent and 27 percent respectively. The three major markets recorded 36 percent, three percent and 18 percent increases respectively, when compared to the same period last year.
MIA handled 1,040 weekly scheduled flights with 30 airlines connecting the peninsula to 42 cities globally until the end of July.
CAM also announced that Palau Pacific Airway will launch the charter flights between Palau and Macau within this month.
