Number of non-resident workers increases by 18 pct

2-MG_0812The number of non-resident workers in Macau reached 176,777 by the end of April, representing a 18.47-percent increase year-on-year.
The Human Resources Office recorded that by the end of April there were 115,565 non-resident workers from mainland China, up by 21.67 percent year-on-year. A total of 22,352 were from the Philippines, representing an increase of 12.17 percent, while 13,661 non-resident employees were from Vietnam, up by 7.78 percent.
Figures also show that 48,551 non-resident employees work within the construction sector, representing a 41.5-percent increase year-on-year. The number of non-resident workers in the retail sector reached 18,438 in April, up by 15.34 percent. A total of 44,187 employees work within the hospitality industry, up by 11.6 percent.
Non-resident workers account for 44.24 percent of Macau’s total employment (399,500 people).  MDT/Lusa
