Small Taipa to have a viewing deck

1_DSSOPT0104082014The government is to build a viewing deck at Small Taipa to create access for pedestrians to enjoy a better view of the Macau Peninsula and Hengqin Island.
According to a statement issued by the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT), construction work began yesterday and the project is estimated to be concluded in 17 months.
The general project is divided into three areas. The first of these will be conducted near the Rotunda de Leonel de Sousa, setting up a tourist information center, lifts, bus stops and restrooms. The second area is on the mountain slope of Small Taipa, where greening projects will be conducted on the 4,700-square-meter zone. In addition, there will be a lift tower, a footbridge, pedestrian crossings and a viewing deck, covering an area of 1,400 square meters on Estrada de Sete Tanques, which encompasses Small Taipa.
After the construction has concluded, residents will be able to observe the scenery surrounding the Macau Peninsula and also views of the Shizimen channel in Hengqin Island.
A new bus station will be set up under the viewing deck at the Rotunda de Leonel de Sousa, providing convenience for residents to use the new facility.
The government said that it aims to improve pedestrian systems in Taipa to meet the increasing demand from residents for a better walking environment. DSSOPT expressed in a statement that the pedestrian system connecting Estrada da Baia de Nossa Senhora da Esperanca and the Taipa Houses Museum gained wide recognition from residents and the government plans to extend the pedestrian system to build a barrier-free walking environment, taking reference from the previous pedestrian project.
As well as the Small Taipa viewing deck construction project, it was announced that the pedestrian path connecting the Taipa Houses Museum and Edf. Do Lago will start soon. Another two pedestrian systems near Avenida de Guimaraes and Rotunda Ouvidor Arriaga are also being designed. GY
