Statistics | Decreasing revenues in local industrial sector

The total revenues of the industrial sector in Macau decreased by 1.7 percent year-on-year to MOP10.5 billion in 2015, according to the industrial survey launched this week by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
As the decline in costs outpaced the decrease in revenues, gross surplus grew by 20.9 percent to MOP2.59 billion. Gross value added, which measures the sectorial contribution to the economy, amounted to MOP4.53 billion, up by 9.1 percent.
A total of 898 establishments were operating in industrial production, a year-on-year increase of 35 establishments, all of which were manufacturing companies with less than 30 persons engaged. The total number of people engaged decreased by 420 to 11,888.
Total receipts of the manufacturing sector (MOP7.13 billion) decreased by 5.9 percent year-on-year and intermediate consumption (MOP4.97 billion) dropped by 12.1 percent.
According to DSEC, the number of companies in the manufacturing sector increased by 35 year-on-year to 892 in 2015. Establishments involved in the manufacture of food products  and beverages rose by 32, publishing and printing establishments went up by 24, and establishments in the manufacture of textiles and apparel, among others, decreased by a total of 19. The total number of people engaged dropped by 407 to 10,804.
Analyzed by industry, total receipts of manufacture of Cement & Concrete (MOP2.03 billion) decreased by 8.3 percent amid lower demand for locally produced cement and related products in construction. Total receipts of manufacture of Food Products & Beverages (MOP1.73 billion) declined by 3.9 percent after rising for six consecutive years.
Receipts of the manufacture of wearing apparel decreased by 15.6 percent year-on-year to MOP525 million.
