Photographer: Jerome Favre/BloombergThe Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the second quarter of 2015 has increased by 0.82 percent year-on-year to 134.61. According to Xinhua, it’s the lowest increase in 12 years.
The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) attributes the slim increase to rising charges for restaurant services (of which the index increased by over 5 percent) and higher prices of local food products. By contrast, the price index of accommodation has decreased by 2.82 percent year-on-year due to lower room rates for three-and four-star hotels.
DSEC further indicated that the TPI for the second quarter of the year dropped by 7.92 percent quarter-to-quarter.
The TPI reflects the price change of goods and services purchased by tourists. Sections of TPI goods and services are selected according to visitors’ consumption trends.
