Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam achieved the highest rating among six high-ranking public servants in a recent survey which was distributed to gauge public opinion of local officials.
The poll was conducted by Macau CIHC Power and assisted by 15 young people in the interview process, which took place between May 10 and August 20. On a scale of one to five, Tam received 4.2 points while the Chief Executive Fernando Chui got 0.3 less.
Following Tam in the rankings is Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak, hitting 4.1. Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong received the lowest score of 3.2, while the other two officials, Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan and Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo Rosario, both attained an equivalent rating of 3.8.
A total of 3,813 respondents contributed to the survey. Cheong Weng Fat, one of the group’s leaders, said that the findings reflected genuine opinions of the key officials within the wider community. “Everybody has witnessed Tam’s efforts and activity in coping with issues,” he said, claiming that the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture deserved the rating. He also praised Wong for his efforts in maintaining security in the region.
