Teenagers taste one day of work

2 Ray Au 區海軒To provide a work experience opportunity for next-generation teenagers, MGM Macau is launching “A day with MGM” for students aged between 13 and 17 to work for one day sampling different operational departments at the resort.
The participating youth, including children or siblings of MGM team members, and young people from different local schools, referred via Sheng Kung Hui Macau and YMCA, can get a sense of the daily hotel working environment that their parents or siblings are part of, as well as a chance to learn how to be a team player and to extend their goals in life.
Taking place on August 5, 15 and 20, all of the young, local participants have a chance to experience working in 14 different MGM operational departments – such as front office, concierge, food and beverage, banquet and human resources – to allow them to fully understand the structure of the hotel’s operations. For a fulfilling learning outcome, all the young participants are instructed and supervised by a senior member of each department.
Joanna Kou, who worked in the wardrobe and linen department, shared her feelings during the ceremony yesterday. “The most impressive thing is the uniform management system. Joining and working in the department is interesting. However, when you’re doing the same job over and over again, sometimes it may be quite boring. Therefore, I admire the staff, because even though they do a lot of repetitive work, they are still very careful in their work.”
Mr Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holding Ltd., said: “I hope that, for all of you, today might have been an opportunity to start thinking of what you are going to do in your career. (…) I am hoping that one day you may feel that you can fit in one of those roles.”
The program was established by MGM in 2011. GY
