The local tourism development master plan has been awarded to AECOM Asia Company Limited for over MOP18.3 million, according to a notice published yesterday in the government’s Official Gazette (BO).
The director of the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO), Helena de Senna Fernandes, stated last May that once the project was awarded to a company, it would take approximately one and a half years to complete the entire master plan.
The plan is intended to outline strategies, which will allow Macau to become “accessible to the world,” and to diversify its tourism products.
Between 2015 and 2017, the consultancy company will be paid over MOP18 million – an amount of money that will be made available through Macau’s Tourism Fund.
Announced in 2013, the master plan aims to help the region in its efforts to open itself to the world and to diversify its tourism products.
Last year, Ms Fernandes clarified that the master plan’s long completion deadline was set due to the project’s complexity.
The plan will outline policies for Macau’s tourism industry for the short, medium and long terms. It will provide policies for the next five, ten and fifteen years.
The master plan report to be drafted by the company will feature an analysis of Macau’s tourism sector development over recent years, while setting up future strategies and goals. Furthermore, the study will look at the MSAR’s existing and future tourism products and promotions. The master plan will also feature suggestions for Macau to boost attractions beyond gaming.
Finally, mobility for tourists and other forms of transportation will also be addressed in the master plan.
