The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to The Venetian Macao on Saturday, with an evening of adrenaline-pumping entertainment.
The main event saw a middleweight clash between two veteran fighters, eighth-
ranked Michael “The Count” Bisping and Hollywood actor and former Strikeforce champion Cung Le. Bisping defeated Cung Le by technical KO in round 4.
After an evenly matched first round, Le got caught in the right eye by a left hook and was soon bloodied. The combat continued although he was visibly in pain and visually affected. Throughout the following two rounds, the audience saw an action-packed battle between the two veterans.
57 seconds into the fourth round, Bisping stopped the 42 year-old Le after landing a series of unanswered strikes and dropping him with a knee. Bisping said at the post-flight press conference that the knockout victory was unexpected,

In other of the night’s main fights, fourth-ranked welterweight Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley – whose wins include victories over former UFC champion Carlos Condit, Josh Koscheck, Paul Daley and Tarec Saffiedine – faced off with

surging ninth-ranked Dong Hyun “The Stun Gun” Kim. Woodley defeated Kim by technical KO in the first round.
Yang Jianping and Ning Guangyou battled it out in the Octagon to become the featherweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter China and win a coveted UFC contract. Ning Guangyou won by unanimous decision after three rounds.

Adding more drama and excitement was a six-bout preliminary card that featured the first-ever women’s UFC match-up in Asia, with American Elizabeth Phillips taking on Russia’s Milana Dudieva. The Russian was crowned the victor by split decision after three rounds.
Attending the event as a special guest was undefeated UFC bantamweight champion and Olympian Ronda Rousey, who recently won the ESPY’s 2014 award for top female athlete. Rousey’s success and global appeal has helped to increase the popularity of women’s mixed martial arts and has in turn contributed to the growth of the sport in Asia. Rousey was joined by other guest fighters, including UFC middleweight

While UFC is promoting the combat sport in Asia, three out of the five events have been held in Macau. At the Fight Night last Saturday, amongst the audience were a host of celebrities including actor Channing Tatum and Hall of Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach. The UFC president Dana White stated after the fight night that the organization will return to Macau with bigger shows and more relevant names in the lineup, which will accompany the UFC’s plan to eventually host events in  mainland China.
According to a press release issued by The Venetian, Cotai Arena tickets were sold out, with an audience of over 7,000. MDT
