Macau Bridge may remain open during typhoons

Local authorities are considering keeping the new Macau Bridge operational during a No. 8 typhoon signal, which typically prompts closures for other bridges. This potential exception is due to the bridge’s wind protection barriers, designed to withstand winds of up to 117 kilometers per hour. Wong Kuok Heng, chief of the Public Work Bureau’s infrastructure division, said real-time data will be collected during the next typhoon before any decision is finalized. Meanwhile, new roads in Urban Zone A will open tomorrow. The bridge’s official opening date is yet to be announced.
