Macau Foundation grants 50 merit scholarships

The Macau Foundation has granted 50 merit scholarships to local students seeking to study abroad in the current 2014/2015 school year. The scholarships are granted on the basis of academic merit. Awarded students are currently attending university in mainland China, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia. The annual scholarship amount ranges from MOP65,000, granted to students attending university in mainland China, to MOP130,000 for those studying in Hong Kong. Students attending higher education institutions in Europe, America or Oceania are granted MOP300,000 annually, the Macau Foundation said in a statement. Students who were awarded the scholarship are required to return to Macau upon graduation and remain in the city at least the same number of years for which they were granted the scholarship.  Criteria used to select these students include the ranking of the university they will be attending (30 percent); academic record achievements in the previous school year (60 percent) and participation in extracurricular activities (10 percent).
