CTM alerts citizens over fraudulent e-mails

Customers from local telecommunications company, CTM, reported receiving emails about a service upgrade which requested for personal information. CTM confirmed that these emails were fraudulent and were not sent by the company.

According to a press release from CTM, the company has taken immediate actions to identify the sender and block the emails from dissemination. All of the fraudulent emails were sent from the same IP address. The matter has also been reported to the Judiciary Police.

The subject of the said email states, “to avoid email service interruption, macau.ctm.net servicer upgrade.” CTM stated that it will continue to monitor any suspicious emails. CTM urges customers to refrain from disclosing personal information through telephone or internet, to avoid clicking on the hyperlink in the suspicious email, and to refrain from browsing on any unknown website.

CTM further added that the company would not normally ask customers to provide personal information such as their ID number, user ID, password and account number over telephone or email. The telecom company urged customers to stay alert to any deceptive emails and phone calls, adding that any suspicious email should be ignored and deleted immediately.
