The International School (TIS) and Macau Rugby organised the first Greater Bay Junior Touch Rugby Competition at the weekend, which was held at the TIS playing field and featured 20 junior clubs and school teams from China, Hong Kong and Macau.
The tournament was held to mark the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Macau SAR establishment and proved to be a big success. Several hundred spectators saw the event kick off with a lion dance before the real action began.
Saint Joseph’s school performed well in the U7 age group. Hong Kong Football Club emerged as winners of the U9 and USRC Tigers from Hong Kong won the U12 category.
There was a strong showing from Macau teams, with Escola ZhengGuanying being finalists in the U12s.
In the U17 category, Macau Bats took the Cup despite good performances from The International School (TIS); Saint Joseph’s 3 and 6 schools.
The tournament was very well received and it is hoped that it will be held again next year.
