Angola | Hotel sector currently offers 14,000 rooms

The hotel and tourism sector in Angola has 14,000 rooms and 18,000 beds in 185 hotels, 88 resorts, 14 apartment hotels and six inns, employing over 202,000 people, said the Secretary of State for Hospitality on Friday in Luanda.
Paulino Baptista, speaking at the close of the First Training Forum for Tourism, held Thurs-day and Friday in Luanda, with the support of the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment and Social Security, announced the creation of 2,000 rooms by the end of year, with the construction of hotels across the country.
The Secretary of State announced that the government intended to build six school-hotels in the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Huíla, Huambo, Moxico and Uíge, in applying the policies established in the National Development Plan.
Cited by Angolan news agency Angop, Baptista reaffirmed the government’s intention to facilitate creation of a million direct and indirect jobs, generating income of USD4.7 billion (592 billion kwanzas) and to receive 4.6 million tourists, 60 percent of whom are Angolan by 2020.
The meeting aimed to get a picture of the development of the sector and was attended by staff of the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment and Social Security and graduates of the Hotel and Tourism School. MDT/Macauhub
