Briefs | Chong Sai pharmacy to temporarily close

The Chong Sai Pharmacy, said to be Sun Yat Sen’s former workplace and currently operating as a museum, will temporarily close to the public in order for its electric facilities to be renovated. According to a statement issued yesterday, the venue will be closed on May 5 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

ID launches sports events page

The Sports Bureau (ID) has launched the Facebook page “Macao Major Sporting Events” to spread information about sport events held in Macau. According to a statement issued yesterday by the ID, the page will include news about events such as the Dragon Boat Races and the Macau Grand Prix. The page will include ticketing information and interviews with athletes.

Specific accusation considered for fake marriages

Local authorities are considering amending the immigration regulations and laws of Macau in order to combat fake marriages. In a response to lawmaker Leong Sun Iok’s written enquiry, the Office of the Secretary for Security announced that the security force is considering amending the city’s laws so as to set up a specific offence for fake marriage, thus deterring crimes of this nature. The office noted that, in Macau, due to the current laws and regulations, people may obtain residence status through a fake marriage. However, the actions perpetrated by these people indeed violate the law, because forged documents are provided. The office said that it has noticed criminals using the Internet to promote fake marriages.

108 graduated from IPM Seniors Academy

A total of 108 senior citizens have graduated from the Seniors Academy of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM). The director of the academy, Lam Wan Mei, said that there have been a growing number of senior citizens applying to the Seniors Academy in recent years. In 2017, 673 senior citizens registered with the school, with IPM admitting approximately 140 people.  This coming July, the academy plans to enroll approximately 120 new students. According to Lam, the government is planning to allow IPM to provide additional student positions within the Seniors Academy.
