Briefs | Police association member arrested for tour fee fraud

A member of a local police association (unidentified) has been arrested for fraud, the Judiciary Police (PJ) reported on Friday. In July 2017, the police association paid a mainland travel agency to organize a group tour to Russia. The total price charged by the agency for the tour was RMB373,000. The suspect, surnamed Lei, collected fees from each member of the tour group, but did not give all the money to the travel agency. The travel agency only reported the case to the PJ in July this year, claiming to have lost RMB220,000.

Physical therapist denounces unprofessional courses

The Macau Physical Therapists Association is reminding the public not to attend physical therapy courses organized by non-authorized organizations. Recently, the association has been receiving frequent inquiries from the public regarding the accreditation of physical therapy courses in Macau. The association informed that the majority of inquiries were targeting a course which has been deemed unprofessional. These courses do not allow students to provide physical therapy services, and in no way can students become physical therapists through these same courses.

Lawmaker wants a thorough investigation of lifeguards’ case

Lawmaker Lei Cheng I suggested the government thoroughly investigate the recent incident involving swimming pool lifeguards. In Lei’s opinion, the case should not be simply regarded as an employment dispute, and the government should investigate if there are indeed situations of overworking. Lei further declared that this situation would eventually impact the safety of residents. Lei said that, according to the Labor Law, the case cannot be settled simply by having the company pay the lifeguards compensation. The government should clearly enforce the lifeguards’ right to rest.

Land prepared for logistics industry on HKZMB

The MSAR government has reserved a piece of land on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge’s Macau port management district in order to set up, as planned, a large-scale logistics facility to enhance the industry’s service. The project is being supervised by the Macau Customs Service. It is expected that the local government will outsource the logistics project for the first stage. Customs will ask the local logistics industry for its opinion. The project is planned to go on public tender within this year. Detailed logistics arrangements will be announced later after the local government meets with Hong Kong authorities.

Macau film projects selected to attend fair

The selection of local film projects for the 2018 Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Film Production Investment and Trade Fair has been concluded. The Cultural Affairs Bureau announced yesterday that the six successful applicants are: Vong Tin Leong, Lim Mi Mi, Hoi Kuok Meng, Ye Ting Hang, Lou Ka Hou, and Io Lou Ian. Applicants will be invited to attend the Fair held on September 4 and 5 in Macau, where they will be able to meet with film investors and producers from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, promote selected film products, and seek opportunities for co-operation.
