Local artists exhibition kicks off with 72 works

The Collective Exhibition of Macau Artists – Exhibition of Works by Winners officially kicked off last Friday, at the Old Court Building.

In last year’s edition of the Collective Exhibition of Macau Artists, young local art enthusiast Lam Wun Keng was awarded the ‘Best Creation Special Prize’ and ‘Best Work-Western Painting’.

In addition, four artists received the New Talent Prizes. Chan In Iong took top honors in the category of Western painting while Chan Chong Hei, who started drawing different cartoon characters as a child and learned Chinese painting at the age of nine, won in the category of Chinese painting. Guan Seng Lok and Un Ka Ian came out top in the category of Chinese calligraphy, with both artists having won various Chinese calligraphy contests in the past.

This exhibition features 72 works by the aforementioned artists.

Among the works displayed in the exhibition, Lam Wung Keng presents a watercolor piece titled “Waves Scouting The Little Hill of Lions,” in addition to prints created on red bricks, which reflects her emotional connection to the city and its development.

In turn, Chan In Iong seeks to break away from the traditional layout of western painting, especially in her much-lauded work “Amusement Park”, which portrays the emotions of imaginary persons as they play the carousel in children parks and explores issues related to each individual’s growth.

At the opening ceremony, the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Leung Hio Ming, said that the IC “has always been actively pushing forward Macau’s visual art’s development and encouraging local artists to actively create artworks.”

Leung mentioned that the artists featured in this year’s exhibition offer a great variety of themes and styles that showcase each artist’s unique characteristics.

Leung hopes that this exhibition will help the public to place more importance on the future development of local young artists, and also experience the atmosphere created by all the artists.

The 32nd Collective Exhibition of Macau Artists Exhibition of Works by Winners runs from 29 July to 27 August and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
