Slight increase in gaming sector employees, salaries

At the end of the second quarter of 2018, the number of full-time employees in the gaming sector increased by 1 percent year- on-year to 56,271, with the number of dealers holding stable at 24,062. According to the results of a survey on manpower needs and wages released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), in June 2018, the average earnings (excluding bonuses) of full-time employees in the sector were MOP23,650, up by 2.5 percent year-on- year. The average earnings of dealers increased by 2.6 percent to MOP20,450. The survey excluded junket promoters and junket associates.

Job vacancies totalled 823 at the end of the second quarter of 2018, down by 100 year-on-year. Most of the vacancies (72.3 percent) were for clerks, including 370 vacancies for dealers.

In terms of recruitment prerequisites, 22.1 percent of the vacancies required work experience, while 74.7 percent required senior secondary education or lower. Requirements for knowledge of Mandarin and English accounted for 92.5 percent and 24.9 percent respectively.

According to the survey, in the second quarter of 2018, a total of 1,311 new employees were hired, up by 26.7 percent from 1,035 in the same quarter of 2017.

Regarding job training, 76,430 gaming sector employees attended training courses organized by their employers or in conjunction with other institutions.
