The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) says it will continue reviewing and updating occupational safety and health courses to keep pace with evolving industry developments and safety measures, a move aimed at better protecting workers in the construction sector.
The commitment comes as the bureau reported that its “Construction Industry Occupational Safety Card System” has trained over 470,000 people since its inception in 2014.
As of July, more than 440,000 workers have been issued safety cards, with over 120,000 currently holding valid certifications.
In addition to the core safety card program, the bureau has also launched specialized safety training on working at heights, electrical work, and the use of lifting equipment.
Since June 2018, over 10,000 workers have obtained the “Construction Safety Specific Training Certificate.”
To further support workplace safety, DSAL has also dispatched nearly 700 sets of safety equipment, including seat belts, fall arrest devices, and mobile temporary fall prevention tools, to small and medium-sized enterprises.
The bureau has organized 145 more occupational health lectures this year, already reaching over 6,600 workers to boost safety awareness across changing industries.
