No time for negotiations on undeveloped Nam Van lots

123The land lots C and D in the Nam Van area that face a land-use expiry deadline next year will be reclaimed by the administration. The Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Raimundo do Rosário reiterated that the government is following the law regarding the case, speaking on the sidelines of a meeting at the AL yesterday.
The statement comes in the wake of complaints from investors who this week advocated for “fair treatment” and solutions “out of court”. The developers’ claim that the executive caused problems that led to the halt in the development works on the land granted to the Sociedade de Empreendimentos Nam Van Company.
“The granting of land is for 25 years. And in this case, it began in 1991 and will end in 2016. There is no way for me to know the full stories of all of the plots of land. I also do not wish to go into many details, because each case is unique and will have its own history and development. Therefore, under the current land law when it reaches the end of the concession time there is no possibility of renewing. That is determined by the law,” said Mr Rosário.
Asked if there will be any possibility on his side to receive the investors and listen to their claims, the secretary suggested that a tentative negotiation “at this time” would be just time wasting.
“According to public records, on July 30 next year, the 25 years will be completed. Therefore, there is no possibility now, at the end of the concession, to do something useful because any land grant entails approving projects and works, and to do all that between now and July is no longer possible,” the secretary referred.
