Angola Cables builds submarine station in Brazil

Angola Cables, an Angolan company that will manage the operations of the fiber-optic submarine cable between Angola and Brazil through the cities of Luanda and Fortaleza, already has a plot of land to install a station for the submarine fiber-optic cable and a data center to coordinate the system in Fortaleza, the capital of the Brazilian state of Ceará.
The concession contract for the land was signed on Friday in Fortaleza, in the presence of the Angolan secretary of State for Telecommunications, Aristides Safeca, the ambassador of Angola in Brazil, Nelson Cosme and Antonio Nunes, chairman of the Board of Directors of Angola Cables.
Cosme said at the ceremony that the Angola Cables projects added to the recent history of relations between Angola and Brazil and supported the existing cooperation instruments, in particular the General Agreement on Political, Economic, Technical and Scientific and Cultural Cooperation and the existing strategic partnership between Angola and Brazil. He also said the government intended to turn Angola into a “telecom hub” in Africa.
At the presentation of the project and the company, Antonio Nunes said that the submarine communications cable between Angola and Brazil will offer a capacity of 40 terabytes per second and data speed exchange of 63 milliseconds.
The fiber-optic submarine cable and the Angola Cables datacenter, to be built in Fortaleza, will occupy an area of ​​about 10,000 square meters, 3,000 square meters of which will be taken up by information technology.
Angola Cables will manage the 6,165-kilometre fiber-optic cable, which will link Luanda to Fortaleza, within the framework of the Atlantic Cable System, making it possible to connect Africa and South America, initially and later North America, when the Monet system starts operating, which will be a fiber-optic cable linking Fortaleza and Santos in Brazil to Miami, in the United States as part of initiative by Angola Cables, Algar Telecom, Google and Antel Uruguay.  MDT/Macauhub
