Autism awareness | Fuhong Society, Macau Tower collaborate on events

A new social enterprise project titled “Happy Corner @ Macau Tower” was officially launched last week during an event at the Macau Tower. The project is the latest collaboration between Fuhong Society of Macau and the Macau Tower.

This is the fifth social enterprise established by Fuhong Society of Macau, following the launch of several other initiatives at Anim’Arte Nam Van and the Taipa-Houses Museum, among other key locations in the MSAR.

The latest collaboration is the first joint charitable endeavor between a Macau private entity and an NGO involving a long-term retail venue sponsorship, according to the organizers.

Under the terms of the collaboration, the Macau Tower will provide Fuhong Society of Macau with a free venue for individuals with disabilities to sell souvenir products which they designed, produced or packaged.

This will act as a platform for the disabled to practice their sales techniques and customer service skills through communicating with customers.

The collaboration aims to give participants the opportunity to solve problems independently and prepare themselves for the workplace in the future.

April 2 has been recognized as the annual “World Autism Awareness Day” by the United Nations. Coinciding with this annual event, Fuhong Society of Macau has launched a microfilm titled “Singing Man” to “promote positive attitudes towards autistic people.”

Two complementary events will be held to further mark the internationally-recognized day: an exhibition from an autistic artist that the organizers did not identify, as well as a concert.
