Briefs | Macau, Siem Reap sign cooperation deal

Macau and Siem Reap Province in Cambodia have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish friendly relations and extend cooperation on mutual interests within a number of fields. The agreement was signed yesterday during a ceremony held at the government headquarters in Macau. The document was signed by the Chief Executive, Chui Sai On, and the Governor of Siem Reap Province, Khim Bunsong. The document covers a number of potential areas for bilateral cooperation, including tourism, cultural affairs, trade, education and conservation of cultural heritage.

Macau finishes AFC Asian Cup at group bottom

The Macau SAR football team lost its last match in this year’s AFC Asian Cup qualification round yesterday, sealing its exit from the tournament. The local team was defeated 1-0 by hosts Myanmar, who had dominated much of the early game albeit without managing to turn their advantage into a lead. Finally, eight minutes after the hour mark, Myanmar’s Kyi Lin’s delivered the breakthrough. The match was the second leg of two games against Myanmar after the local team were whitewashed 4-0 at home earlier in the competition. The final match puts Myanmar and Macau in third and fourth respectively in the four-team group. Both were resigned to relegation before yesterday’s match as they had not won enough points to advance.

Training programs for fishermen launched

The Marine and Water Bureau, the Labor Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and a local fishermen association are accepting applications for training program targeting fishermen. The aim of the training program is to allow fishermen to develop their professional skills during the offseason. According to a statement issued by DSAL yesterday, considering that the fishermen’s income is lower during this time of the year, MOP9,500 will be attributed to all those who conclude successfully the training program. All those with an attendance rate superior to 70 percent will receive part of that subsidy.  The programs can train attendees to work as carpenters, electricians, painters and security guards, among other professions.
