Cape Verde receives 278,000 tourists in first half

The number of tourists who visited Cape Verde in the first half of the year exceeded 278,000, an annual increase of 2.0 percent, while overnight stays increased 3.5 percent to almost 1.8 million, the National Statistics Institute (INE) reported in Praia.
Analysing the data by quarter, in the second quarter the archipelago received 116,200 tourists, 4.8 percent more than in the same period of 2014, which accounted for 746,000 overnight stays, 4.1 percent more year on year .
In the second quarter the United Kingdom was the main source of tourists and its citizens also remained longest in the archipelago with an average stay of 9 days. The island of Sal is the most popular accounting for about 46 percent of overnight stays in hotel establishments.
After tourists from the UK, with 24.2 percent of the total, were Portugal, Germany and France, with 13.1 percent, 12.6 percent and 9.8 percent of the total, respectively.
Hotels remained the most popular type of accommodation, accounting for 87.3 percent of all entries, followed by bed and breakfasts with about 4.7 percent and inns with 3.3 percent.
With regard to overnight stays, hotels accounted for 94.0 percent, bed and breakfasts for 1.9 percent and inns for 1.3 percent. MDT/Macauhub
