Labor Gov’t urges more clerical job vacancies for local residents

Macau authorities have once again emphasized their commitment to safeguarding the employment needs of local job seekers, issuing their first statement of the year urging large institutions in sectors like higher education and public utilities to provide more information on available clerical positions.

The Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance issued a statement yesterday regarding the first working meeting of the Employment Promotion Coordination Working Group for 2026.

The statement noted that Macau youth continue to show a preference for administrative positions in the banking sector, a trend believed to reflect the impact of a recent career-matching event focused on the banking industry.

The statement revealed that the meeting outlined this year’s plans for job matching and vocational training.

During the session, Anton Tai, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, emphasized the need to actively collect more clerical vacancy information from large institutions in fields such as higher education and public utilities, beyond the banking sector, through a cross-departmental cooperation mechanism.

This initiative aims to directly address the employment needs of local job seekers. The task force plans to host four large-scale job fairs from March to May, offering tailored matching services for various industries and job seeker groups.

The employment preferences of Macau residents were highlighted, underscoring the need for targeted career matching and training measures. “Multiple strategies will be implemented to create a stable employment environment for Macau residents,” the statement noted.

Authorities’ immediate work arrangements will include strengthening collaboration with the banking sector to organize another dedicated job-matching event.

Concurrently, industry seminars and specialized employment programs will be held, along with deepened cooperation with integrated tourism and leisure enterprises in job matching and vocational training.

The focus will be on advancing more diversified specialized employment programs and implementing “customized training” designed to align closely with the actual job requirements of enterprises.

The working group stressed the importance of addressing employers’ staffing needs to create a stable employment environment for Macau residents.
