The government of Mozambique has approved the new minimum wages to be paid by each sector and sub-sector of activity, with increases ranging from 4 to 13 percent coming into force this month, the Mozambican Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security said Tuesday in Maputo.
After a cabinet meeting, Vitória Diogo said the minimum wage for the agricultural sector, hunting and forestry increased by 5.74 percent to 3183 meticais or US$87.4 at the current exchange rate (about 36.4 meticais per dollar).
The minimum wage for the microfinance, micro-insurance and other financial intermediation activities, rose 7.72 percent to 7,800 meticais and for the banking and insurance company increased to 7050 meticais, an rise of 7.84 percent.
The government also adopted minimum wages for fishing, quarrying, manufacturing, production, distribution of electricity, gas and water, construction and non-financial services of between 3000 meticais (+5.0 percent) in the capenta fishing sub-sector and 5643 meticais (+5.48 percent) in the sub-sector of large companies in the mining sector.
The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security also said that minimum wages of public administration, defense and security workers would be submitted directly to the Council of Ministers and approved in April. MDT/Macauhub
