Local delegation travels to first National Youth Games

1 6I0A8660The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam, was presented with the Macau flag by the delegation that will compete in the 1st National Youth Games. In a ceremony held at the government headquarters. Alexis Tam and the president of the Macau Sport Development Board, José Tavares, encouraged the athletes to represent the MSAR with their best level of sportsmanship, while wishing them good luck for the competition.
The 1st National Youth Games (NYG) is a sporting competition organized by the General Administration of Sport of China and undertaken by the People’s Government of Fujian Province. Formerly known as the National Intercity Games, the eighth edition of these games was officially renamed as the 1st National Youth Games.
When it was first held in 1988, the Games were set as a national multi-sports event that took place every four years, with the aim of identifying and training sports talent, as well as promoting the development of sports in various cities.
The 1st NYG will be held from October 18 to 27 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. China and Macau will be represented by a delegation of 103 athletes, competing in 13 sporting events.
The NYG includes a total of 26 competition events across a wide range of sports, including archery, wushu, badminton, basketball, cycling, fencing, football, gymnastics, hockey, judo, sailing, table tennis, and taekwondo, among others. RM
