1-204922The CAPA Asia Aviation Summit & LCC Congress 2014 and CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence – Asia Pacific, organized by the CAPA Centre for Aviation, were held on the 13th – 15th October 2014 in Singapore. Macau International Airport (MIA) won the CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence – “Asia Pacific Small International Airport of the Year (<15m+pax) for 2014” in the awards ceremony. Ms. Emma Tang, deputy director of marketing at the Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) represented MIA on the night and collected the prize. According to a press release issued by CAM, the accolade “recognized airlines and airports that were not only successful but also played the role of leadership in adjusting to a new environment.”
“Macau is on track to grow passenger traffic by over 10% in 2014 for the second consecutive year,” said Mr Peter Harbison who presented the award. “The airport’s management has successfully attracted low-cost carriers, establishing an LCC penetration rate that is among the highest in North Asia. Its leadership has adopted a pragmatic approach to cost, providing the framework for further LCC expansion,” he added.
The CAPA prize was also given based on the fact that MIA had handled 1 million LCC passengers in the first 8 months of 2014, stimulating growth in inbound visitor traffic and boosting the local economy.
After having previously received the titles of CAPA International Airport of the Year in 2004, and the CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence in Airport Marketing in 2012, this is the third time MIA has won a CAPA Aviation Award for Excellence.
