Slight increase in real estate management services

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 217 establishments engaged in real estate management services in 2016, an increase of eight establishments year- on-year.

The number of persons engaged rose by 5.4 percent to 5,217; of these, 62 percent (3,236) were property caretakers or doorkeepers.

Industry income amounted to MOP1.39 billion, up by 8 percent year-on-year. Expenditure increased by 9.5 percent to MOP1.12 billion, of which employee compensation (MOP 589 million) and operating expenses (MOP 417 million) rose by 14.3 percent and 2.1 percent respectively.

Gross value added, which measures the sectoral contribution to the economy, grew by 10.2 percent year-on-year to MOP 850 million. Gross surplus went up by 2.1 percent to MOP260 million.

Meanwhile, gross fixed capital formation tumbled by 94.3 percent year- on-year to MOP13.08 million, due to a reduction of property acquisition.

Still according to DSEC, there were 44 establishments providing security services in 2016, up by five year-on-year. Receipts amounted to MOP1.86 billion, up by 9.1 percent year-on-year.

A total of 176 establishments were operating in cleaning services in 2016, an increase of 13 year-on- year. Industry receipts increased by 13.5 percent year-on-year to MOP1.11 billion.

The number of establishments operating in advertising services increased to 639, up by 38 year-on- year. Industry receipts decreased by 14.5 percent year-on-year to MOP 784 million.

Sales of services rendered by some advertising establishments for conferences, exhibitions and other events grew by 31.6 percent to MOP313 million (39.9 percent of the total).
