The University of Macau (UM) recently held a public lecture by Professor Lars Brink, the former chairman of the Nobel Committee for Physics at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
The talk included a discussion about Alfred Nobel and his founding of the Nobel Prizes and the statues behind them. Prof Brink explained the nomination selection process for Nobel Prizes and how the Nobel Committees invite thousands of experts and scholars from different countries and institutions to nominate candidates for Nobel Prizes.
According to a UM press release, Professor Brink presented another talk titled “The Standard Model of Particle Physics is Complete,” illustrating the necessary understanding of the physics the committee needs to have which resulted in the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics for the discovery of the Higgs Boson.
Prof Brink, a distinguished professor at the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, is also a member of the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in Potsdam, Germany.
