The Youth Day took place in China yesterday, with the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region hosting a forum to discuss Macau youths’ outlook on the international stage.
Commissioner Liu Xianfa recapped in his speech that two local civil servants had gone to the UN as Junior Professional Officers. It was the first time in history that such a thing happened, and as Liu put it, was “a vivid example of Macau youths marching towards the world with the Motherland at their back.”
It was, meanwhile, a prominent embodiment of the country’s attention to and care for Macau youth.
He added that Macau youth born in the new era were born “timely” with “substantial responsibilities on their shoulders.” He believes that Macau youth shall make pioneering achievements.
Liu pointed out that the “14th Five-Year Plan”, the “Belt-
and-Road” Initiative, and the Greater Bay Area provide unprecedented opportunities for the development of Macau. In the new era, Macau youth must also firmly establish a global mindset and a global vision, while demonstrating their responsibilities on the international stage.
At the same occasion, Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong emphasized that the Commissioner’s Office had long helped Macau vibrantly participate in global affairs, making Macau a spectacular example of the “One country, two systems” Principle.
He took the example of the city sending a first-aid team to accompany a mainland team to provide Covid-19 medical assistance to Algeria and Sudan to illustrate his point. AL
