While discussing the cyberattack on the Macau Health Code, Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak admitted yesterday that the investigation is facing difficulties, as most attacks were conducted using foreign IP addresses. He added that although Interpol has channels to assist similar investigations, it is hard to ensure efficiency and that the foreign jurisdictions concerned may not be willing to help. Wong stressed that the Judiciary Police’s Cybersecurity Centre has been in contact with the Health Bureau to implement a multitude of preventive measures.
Professional Tax refund to commence this Friday
Professional Tax refunds concerning payments made in 2019 will commence this Friday, the Financial Services Bureau (DSF) announced yesterday. Taxpayers will be reimbursed 70% of their paid taxes, with a maximum amount set at MOP20,000. Those who have registered by April 9 to received DSF payments via bank transfer will have their tax refunds banked this Friday. For other taxpayers, the refunds will arrive in the form of a crossed check that will be sent in batches.
Gov’t says third-round stimulus top-up going smoothly
The government announced that as of noon yesterday, more than 20,000 consumption cards have been topped up. The 170 top-up points across the city have been running smoothly so far. As for those who registered to use their mobile payment apps instead, 129,000 of them registered prior to May 20, meaning that they will gradually receive their funds starting from yesterday. Meanwhile, the government has made videos to help familiarize users with the payment and balance enquiry process.
