The SAR government has adopted various measures against Covid-19 in the catering industry particularly relating to food safety, as well as an array of supportive measures to bolster tourism and other related industries, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) stated in the ‘Macao Creative City of Gastronomy’ work meeting.
A report due to be submitted by the end of November to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) will elaborate the initiatives taken to revitalize the industries in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As Macau was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2017, the government is required to submit the monitoring reports once every four years.
MGTO’s director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes shared the first monitoring report yesterday with the meeting. This report will be submitted to the Secretariat of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) next month, in addition to delivering an overview of UCCN’s current situation.
Fernandes hopes that the catering industry provides more suggestions and joins hands in fostering preservation, innovation and exchange of Macau’s gastronomic culture, so as to advance sustainable development.
During the meeting, the official said that over the last four years, the MGTO and related governmental entities, academic institutions and industry operators have been collaborating to push forward Macau’s development as a Creative City of Gastronomy.
This includes organizing the ‘International Gastronomy Forum, Macao’; launching the Macanese Cuisine Database; offering online learning videos, workshops and seminars for industry professionals; and engaging in events organized by the UCCN and member cities, among others.
Since January, the MGTO has solicited from 18 public entities, academic institutions and units on their summaries of work progress over the past four years and suggestions to formulate a future action plan. LV
