The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) calls on consumers who have purchased unsafe pickles from the mainland and are in possession of the affected products to stop consuming them immediately.
“IAM is highly concerned about the poor hygiene of some mainland pickled products, including instant noodle products containing the above-mentioned pickled vegetable ingredient packets, which are available for sale in Macau,” the authority said.
The three potentially affected instant noodle products, which originated from mainland China, are Master Kong Old altar pickled beef instant noodle (cup) (net weight: 122g), Master Kong Old altar pickled beef instant noodle (bag) (net weight: 117g for five-pack)) and Unif Instant Noodles, Beef with pickled Flavor Instant Noodles (net weight: 125g).
IAM said they have issued a food alert to the local food trade, requesting them to immediately suspend the sale of the products and remove them from the shelves, and to inform the bureau when doing so.
In addition, IAM has also sent staff to inspect the marketplace and is continuing to follow up on the incident. As a precautionary measure, consumers who have purchased and are in possession of the affected products are advised to stop consuming them immediately to ensure safety.
CCTV recently reported that Hunan’s Chaiqi Vegetable Industry, which processes Master Kong Old altar for instant noodle enterprises, was found to be operating under unhygienic conditions, with some workers wearing slippers and bare feet and stepping on the pickles, while some even smoked while working and threw their cigarette butts directly into the pickles.
